We have recently learned that Toms River has made changes to the following:
Garbage Collection
Twice a week garbage collection will only be done between July 8th and September 2nd. Previously there was twice a week collection from mid-June to mid-September.
Recyling Collection
Effective May 3, 2010, township residents’ curbside collection of recycling will change to single stream – which means that all recyclables must now be placed in the same container. Curbside collection will include all rinsed glass, plastic bottles, metal cans, newspapers, corrugated cardboard, magazines, brown bags, catalogs, junk mail, paperback books and empty non-toxic aerosol cans. Continue placing these materials in your current reusable, sturdy container (no larger than 35 gallon capacity with a detachable lid). Never tie, bundle or bag any recyclable materials.
The Ocean County recycling facility has been upgraded to single stream separation, making recycling easier. Bagging, tying or bundling is prohibited.

IMPORTANT DATES AND REMINDERS
|
The beach is now open..so come on up and say "hi" to "Cap" and his crew!!
We accumulated a tremendous amount of sand over the winter in our storm fences...it took the bulldozer operator 3 days to do the grading, but it was money well spent. The bulldozer operator estimated that we accumulated 6,000 cubic yards of sand, which equates to 300 truck loads or $300,000 of sand at $50/cubic yard. The net result of the grading raised our beach elevation about 6 feet, which will give us good protection over the summer months.
Thanks to Rich Milligan, for the photos...and an Extra Special Thank You to Rich for all the time he spends coordinating our beach maintenance efforts!! Great Job!!

The following is the text of an e-mail that was sent out on Wednesday, August 19, 2009:
Dear Silver Beach Member,
We recently learned that there have been a rash of break-ins in both Normandy Beach and Ortley Beach, as well as other areas on the barrier island.
So far, the only crime that we are aware of in Silver Beach has been the theft of 2 bicycles.
We do not wish to alarm anyone, but felt it prudent to send a reminder to:
-keep the doors and windows locked in your home and sheds when you are not home
-close your car windows and lock your cars doors
-secure any valuable possessions, particularly bicycles, skooters, surfboards and the like.
We also cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your eyes and ears open and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the Toms River Police at 732-349-0150.
If you hear of any criminal activity in the area, please also notify us at silverbeachnj@aol.com, so that we can keep our Members posted.
With your diligence, we will keep Silver Beach safe.
