Hard to believe Memorial Day has come and gone!!

The winter storm fences are out and the beach has been graded…the beach looks great!!  Check our website for some winter photos to see just how much sand had to be spread to get the beach back in shape.

SPRING MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Date: Saturday, June 12th

Time: 9am

Place: Dover Brick First Aid Squad

       Rt. 35 South, Normandy Beach

We’d love to see you there!!

A FRIENDLY REMINDER

The due date for 2010 Annual Dues is Saturday, June 12th.  A Late Fee of $50 will be imposed after that date.

THANK YOU!!

We would like to offer a special “Thank You” to all the volunteers who came out for our Beach Cleanup on May 15th.  There were over 40 people who took the time out of their busy schedule to help in this effort.  We would like to thank each and every one of you for helping to make our beach one of the finest on the Jersey Shore!!

VANDALISM AND BEACH SECURITY

Unfortunately, our newly restored deck and railings at the Badge House were the victim of vandalism over Memorial Day Weekend.  Some “rocket scientists” decided it would be fun to pull the hand rails off the steps.  If you know who did this, please contact one of our EC Members.  This is costing us all money and it seems unlikely that we can blame “renters” this time.  This type of activity has got to stop!!

We have again made arrangements with First Response Protective Services to patrol our beaches and community every evening during the summer season from 10pm-3am.  There will be two guards assigned to Silver Beach, sharing the responsibility in order to provide coverage 7 days a week.  They will have a marked security car and will patrol the community as well as the ocean and bay beaches.  We encourage our Members to introduce themselves and their family to the guards so they can become familiar with the community.

In addition, we were informed at the Toms River Neighborhood Watch Meeting that WaWa has agreed to hire a security guard to patrol their parking lot.  While this may sound like a great idea, we are a little concerned that more kids will now try to hang at the beach…it’s somewhat of a “Catch 22” situation.

We ask that anyone who sees any vandalism or inappropriate activity at the beach, either notify the security guard or call the Toms River Police at 732-349-0150

OCEAN BEACH OPENING

We accumulated a tremendous amount of sand over the winter in our storm fences.  It took the bulldozer operator 3 days to do the grading, but it was money well spent.  The bulldozer operator estimated that we accumulated 6,000 cubic yards of sand, which equates to 300 truck loads or $300,000 of sand at $50/cubic yard.  Check out our “King of the Mountain” shots on our website.  The net result of the grading raised our beach elevation about 6 feet, which will give us good protection over the summer months.

An “Extra Special Thank You” to Rich Milligan for all the time he spends coordinating our beach maintenance efforts…Great Job Rich!!

Our lifeguards will be back on duty on Saturday, June 19th...so come on up and say "hi" to "Cap" and his crew.

BAY BEACH CLOSED

The replacement of the north bulkhead was delayed last season due to DEP and Toms River permits; it was delayed again this winter due to harsh weather.  The replacement of the bulkhead was finally completed in April.  We will be pursuing the replacement of the Bocce court shortly.

We would also like to remind you that the Bay Beach is closed to swimming due to stinging sea nettles.  However, the playground is still open.  We ask that parents stay with their children to ensure their safety as there is no guard at the bay beach.

LIFEGUARD PARKING

In the past, our lifeguards were permitted to park in the Sandpiper parking lot.  Now that the parking lot is gone, we are in desperate need of parking for our guards.  We have made arrangements with the First Aid Squad to allow our guards to park there, if needed.  However, if you generally have room for a car on your property on a regular basis, please see Ken, John or Gabby.  Even if it’s only during the week or on a specific day of the week, the guards would greatly appreciate it, especially at the end of long, hot day in the sun.
